Gyaru

Ain't she a cutey? Well, my posting fervor's calmed so I decided to show what I've been working on so far before I lose all motivation. Obviously, this girl is still a work in progress; I've got to add more shadows and such to make her pop. After drilling myself with these pieces, I think I've gotten a little more confident with being consistent with my light source.

On another note, I've been watching live streams of artists drawing. A little creeper, yes but helpful. You can get a bountiful of information from just watching another person paint at real time. Sure, you can be distracted by chat but really, you need some kind of entertainment while you're viewing someone do their thing for 5+ hours. Come for the knowledge, stay for the lulz.

Mother Units

So the Udon Group has opened for submissions for their Megaman Tribute Book. I've decided to enter into the whole hubbub since Megaman was present for a good portion of my life. The earliest I can fondly remember was watching my brother play Megaman Legends on his computer. I don't remember anything about the story but I've decided to base my entry on this.

So! Here are the mother units in a super rough sketch. In physical form, it takes up about a quarter of my page. I've already drawn on top of it but it still needs some massive overhaul. Let's just say they're both on different perspective points.

Old work

As I was cleaning out my work folder, I stumbled across this little number. This is the last page of my comic book class final. I never got past this point as I literally did the whole project the night before. Not fun.

Anyways, I am proud of what I did so far but man, what was I thinking!? Some of the inking and anatomy is so shot, it's funny. I do like the poses though. I was such a sucker for super dynamic posing. I still am.

Oh oh! If you're curious about the rest of the comic, you'll find it here. But I warn you! Very, very sloppy and amateur work.

Holidays are Happy

Another colour experiment that I took some time on. Pretty much did the shading in grays and then set the layer to multiply on top of a layer of flats. It's a lot easier for me to drop shadows correctly when I'm doing this method as I can read tones in grays a lot more clearly than colours. Doing this experiment has really taught me a lot so I can't wait to experiment with the previous style a little more with all this new understanding under my belt.

Happy Holidays~!

Also, a break down. For fun.

Sketching by Moonlight

As you may know, there was a lunar eclipse tonight. Before the eclipse, the moon was full and very, very bright. So bright, that I tried to be a romanticist and sketch by moonlight. These were the sketches I pulled and I gotta say, drawing with frozen/gloved hands is hard. At least it forces you to draw with your arm.

My Favorite Kind of Jam

So just this Saturday, the animation program had the semester-ly Sketch Jam. I guess you can count that as "annual." It was my first time going to one of these and I had a great time.

Presenting

Mr. Bubbles! The evil mad scientist fish!
And Mi Cha! The 9 Year Old Korean Game Wiz
I'd add some backstory or something witty but I'm a little burnt out.

Coffee Break!

Heeere's Mi Cha again. Redesigned. I prefer this version of her so I'm pretty sure I'll be handing this one in. Just gotta tweak it some more though. Right now she's a little blurry so I've gotta add some solid lines to ground her.

Quick exercise

Just a quick lighting exercise I decided to do.... Instead of finishing up my character designs. Whee.

Buut yeah. I can't remember how long it took me but definitely not at the hour mark.

Third Spam

Aha. I didn't draw for a day and now I'm just spewing them out.

Here's Mi Cha again. This time a little more finished.
The characters I was referencing from were Tootie (Fairly Oddparents), Pucca, Agnes (Despicable Me), Hachikuji Mayoi (Bakemonogatari).
I'm still debating whether or not she should wear a school uniform or this: http://www.akinaiblog.com/product/1905

It's the Smirk!

Oh, who could this be?! Still playing around with digi-painting. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this. I managed to bang this out in the past half hour. Guess playing around with acrylics last year for art class is sort of paying off. That and I'm just scouring deviantArt for inspiration to shoot for. It's always good to establish a bar. That's how I can measure my progress.

It's like: "I like so-and-so's style so let's go!" "Oh well, that's all I can learn from him let's move to what's-his-name!"

Heaven Please

Hello! Here's a piece from a painting experiment I was trying out.
This is a piece of fanart for an anime called "Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt." Yes, there's anime with that name. It's not as raunchy as you would hope but it's as random as the title.
This character's name is Stocking and she's a sweets lovin', katana-wielding loli.

Sketch

Just trying out different ways to digi-paint. Whipped this up in Sai and then ran it through some filters in Photoshop.

Fujitsu Sketch

Blah blah blah. Just a random sketch I did on a classmate's Fujitsu laptop. I like it. A lot. It's a lot better than the Toshiba tablet laptop that I had before. It's looks and feels really good.

Though obviously, I still have to get used to it. Along with Sketchbook Pro. I prefer Sai.

More Doodlin'

A quick doodle that I pulled together to procrastinate from doing storyboarding homework. Lately I've been trying to paint faster on digital. I really dislike the idea of spending hours and hours on a piece.

Paintin' and Paintin'

As the semester ends, I keep thinking about the digital painting class that I'm gonna start in the next month. Well to tell the truth, I'm actually thinking, "SEMESTERENDINGOHMYGODYES" nowadays next to, "MUSTFINISHASSIGNMENTSBLAARG."

Anyways! About digital painting, I've only done a couple pictures as I still don't understand the art of it. It's rather frustrating since most of the time I get a pile of blurry goop on my screen when I'm done. Which is why I'm quite pleasantly surprised at this pretty little mug that I've rendered. It's not the best of course. But really, it's the best I've done.

Self Portrait

Haha. This is definitely not a caricatured portrait. Really, I just wanted to draw a side profile bust. I'm quite happy at how this turned out as most of my digital sketches never enter the internet.

First post.

Hello, hello everyone.

Around three months ago, I started studying in my animation program. At that time, I though I was good but with lots of room to grow. Now, only half-way through the year, I've noticed a huge development. Exponential even.

With this revelation, I've decided to create a blog to log assignments and personal drawings. All for the sake of documenting the continuing development in my arts.

To commemorate, here's something I did for a friend tonight.
"You can't trick a trickster." - one of my teachers.
